So I had an EPIC weekend. It began early Thursday with late rehearsals, cooking a horrendous dinner (don’t ever mix guacomole, under cooked beans and latent-and best left unexplored-dreams of being a mexican chef) and meeting some people I slept, woke up, drove a bajillion miles for a one night, guys only fishing trip.
The trip was fun, drank some beer, ribbed the family, then got up the next day, drove a bajillion miles back home, slept, woke up, went to a ‘Last Show for LCD Soundsystem party’ where I met and hung out with a bunch of friends I have been to negligent with. Then I drove a bajillion more miles to my first Afterprom of the year!
The show was great! I was exhausted from all the driving and traveling and when I got there I was told that not only would I not have a mic for the show but also the heater in the back ground (an industrial one) could not be turned off and there was over three hundred kids…
sooooo, I went out, warmed up my voice (while the parents came and went while giving me the ‘kid is crazy’ look) and did it! The show was a blast and the kids were great, I got a couple of great people and we made an awesome time out of a bad situation.
To me working well in situations like that is what makes me, again and again, the Last Gentleman Magician. I could have shown up, thrown a fit, demanded that the parents move me to another room (causing them to have to up and move some three hundred chairs), demanded the dj bring his sound system in, any number of things, but I did not. Instead I took the training I had, matched it up with the talent I am born with, and brought it!
I was amazed with the turn out and hope to have gotten some good video.
After that I slept, ate and prepared for the week! Till then though, peace!
