I am home right now, as is my sister, and I wonder at the quality of content and expectations of it.
You see my sister is brainwashed by shows on a certain television network. I won’t say which but suffice to say it carries the same three shows.
Show number 1-Shows about people either having babies or people having way to many babies. Why the hell are these shows interesting? They take bland people in boring situations, show something that everyone in the world goes through, and then expect ratings. My sister is BRAINWASHED by these types of shows. They are all the same, from their construction to the people on them, the undramatic staged moments and the lame endings. How do people manage to watch these?
Show number 2-People looking for houses. How boring of a life do you have to lead to find interest in other people buying houses? I can understand watching shows to better understand the process or to learn things about living in Historic districts, etc. But holy hell folks these shows teach you nothing! The shows are always the same, they look at houses, make the inane comments, then agree to a house. My sister watches this shit like mad.
Show number 3-Shows about families. These shows often have no point except to highlight weirdos such as polygamist families or freak shows where people have eight to a bazillion kids. Why does anyone honestly waste their time on these things? These families are either nut jobs spewing off some weirdo agenda or people desperate to soak up fame because of some woman’s resilient womb. My sister can quote fact for fact details about these shows and these people’s details.
Why is any of this acceptable? Do not think that I am saying my sister is the only person to blame, I say all people who watch this shit are! You can’t keep shows like this going if no one watches them. The problem is that they have a huge following. Huge! The networks will often sign these shows on for many multiple seasons.
I understand that they are cheap and fill an hour with little cost to the company or programming station, but honestly when the world is filled with people like Ken Burns, brilliant writers (David Lynch who wrote Twin Peaks which is still a factorial greater than all of these shows combined) amazing comedians and so on why do we settle for this fodder?
I don’t know, I just wish it would all go away.
Something to think about!
